Mutual Fund Distribution

Mutual funds, mapped to your goals

From your first SIP to a consolidated family portfolio — regular plans across all AMCs, structured around what the money is actually for.

01 — The Framework

Every rupee belongs in a bucket.

Before we talk about which fund, we talk about what the money is for. The time horizon and purpose determine the asset class, the acceptable volatility, and the right behaviour when markets move.

Immediate

Emergency Reserve

Anytime · 3–6 months of expenses

Capital preservation, not growth. This bucket is held for access. Returns are incidental — the criterion is that the money is there when you need it.

Asset types: Liquid · Overnight · Ultra-short duration

Short-Term

Goals: 0–3 Years

Near horizon

Down payment, travel, home renovation. Predictability matters more than upside here. Equity volatility on a short horizon can set a goal back significantly.

Asset types: Debt · Arbitrage · Short-duration

Medium-Term

Goals: 3–7 Years

Building horizon

Child's education, a vehicle, partial corpus. Enough time for hybrid allocations to recover from drawdowns — not enough for concentrated equity.

Asset types: Hybrid · Balanced advantage · Multi-asset

Long-Term

Goals: 7 Years+

Compounding horizon

Retirement, wealth for the next generation. Equity is appropriate here — but only because the horizon absorbs volatility. The allocation is written down and reviewed on schedule, not on headlines.

Asset types: Equity · Index · Flexi-cap · ELSS

02 — Selection Process

We screen funds. We don't chase rankings.

Six criteria go into every shortlist. The goal is consistency and fit — not recency bias or the current year's performance table.

Rolling-return consistency

One-year trailing returns mislead. We look at rolling 3- and 5-year returns across multiple market cycles to assess whether performance is repeatable or lucky.

Drawdown behaviour

How deep does it fall in a downturn, and how quickly does it recover? A fund that drops 40% needs a 67% gain to break even. Drawdown matters as much as upside.

Portfolio overlap

Many investors hold five funds that own the same 30 stocks. We check overlap across your entire portfolio so diversification is real, not cosmetic.

AUM vs strategy capacity

A small-cap strategy that has grown to ₹30,000 crore cannot execute the way it could at ₹3,000 crore. We track whether AUM has outgrown the strategy.

Expense ratios

Costs compound. A 0.5% TER difference over a 20-year horizon is not trivial. We weigh what each scheme costs against what it delivers, and flag when cheaper options are genuinely equivalent.

Manager tenure

Track records belong to the manager, not the product. A fund with a five-year performance history and a manager who joined eight months ago has, effectively, no track record worth citing.

We don't publish scheme names.

Recommendations are made one-to-one, after understanding your goals and suitability. What belongs in your portfolio depends on facts we don't yet know about you — your time horizon, other holdings, income, and what market volatility you can actually sit with. This is a policy, and the right way to recommend.

03 — The Service Layer

What working with us actually looks like.

The fund selection is the starting point. The service is what happens before and after — and what keeps the portfolio aligned with your life over time.

Consolidated InvestWell reporting

One view of your entire portfolio across AMCs — current value, allocation, and returns — without logging into multiple fund-house portals separately.

Family-level view across folios

If your household holds folios across multiple family members, we map them together — so your total allocation picture is clear, not just the individual accounts.

Capital-gains statements at tax time

Gain statements organised and ready — actual vs cost basis, short-term vs long-term, by folio and financial year — so your CA has what they need without chasing individual AMC portals.

Paperless transactions + scheduled reviews

SIPs set up once. Lump-sum instructions executed without paperwork. Reviews on a fixed schedule — not because markets moved, but because your goals deserve regular attention regardless.

04 — Portfolio Consolidation

Already have funds scattered across apps, banks, and old folios?

We start with your CAS — the Consolidated Account Statement that shows every folio you hold across all AMCs. From there, we map what you already own to your goals before suggesting a single change.

Restructuring an existing portfolio is not always the right move. Exit loads, short-term capital gains tax, and the cost of switching need to be weighed honestly against the benefit of consolidating. We will tell you when it is not worth it.

What a consolidation review covers

  • CAS import and full portfolio mapping
  • Overlap analysis across existing holdings
  • Exit load and LTCG analysis before any restructuring
  • Goal alignment — what you have vs. what you need

05 — Transparency

How we're paid — plainly stated.

Trail commission from AMCs

When you invest in a regular plan through Ladder Financial Services, the AMC pays us a trail commission out of the scheme's Total Expense Ratio (TER). This is already reflected in the NAV — it is not an additional charge on top of your investment. You do not write a cheque to us.

Regular vs direct — the honest trade-off

Direct plans carry a lower TER because there is no distributor commission. Regular plans cost slightly more — and that difference funds the allocation decisions, fund selection, consolidation, behavioural support through drawdowns, and the accountability of a relationship. Whether that difference is worthwhile depends on whether you actually need those services. We will tell you honestly if you don't.

KYC & regulatory compliance

KYC via KRAs (KYC Registration Agencies) is mandatory for all mutual fund investments in India. Ladder Financial Services complies fully with AMFI's Know Your Distributor (KYD) norms and the AMFI Code of Conduct for Mutual Fund Distributors.

06 — Common Questions

Things people usually ask.

Is there a minimum investment?
No — SIPs start at ₹500–1,000 in most schemes. There is no minimum set by Ladder Financial Services for starting a mutual fund investment relationship with us.
Regular vs direct plans — what's the honest difference?
Direct plans carry a lower expense ratio (TER) because no distributor commission is built in. Regular plans cost slightly more — that difference pays for allocation decisions, fund selection, family-level consolidation, behavioural support through market cycles, and accountability over time. The right choice depends on whether you need those services, not on which has the lower number. The trade-off is set out in the “How we're paid” section above.
Can I keep my existing funds and still work with you?
Yes — we start with a CAS (Consolidated Account Statement) review, map what you already hold to your goals, and suggest changes only where they are genuinely justified after accounting for exit loads and capital gains tax. We do not suggest restructuring for its own sake.
Where does my money actually sit?
Units are held in your name directly with the AMC. Money moves from your bank account to the AMC — Ladder Financial Services never holds, pools, or touches client money. We will never ask you to transfer funds to us or to any personal account.
Why don't you list recommended funds on this page?
Policy and compliance. Scheme recommendations are made one-to-one, after understanding your goals, time horizon, and risk capacity — not published publicly. What belongs in your portfolio depends on facts we do not yet know about you. A list of funds divorced from your context is not a recommendation — it is noise.
